"The PlayStation brand ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008," comments Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) President and CEO Jack Tretton. "We are particularly pleased to have sold through 1.2 million units of PS3 during the holiday selling season."
"The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray s dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies," he adds. "Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games."
Both the PSP and the PS3 trailed rival platforms in total units sold throughout 2007, but Sony is optimistic that it will gain even more momentum in 2008 when big games hit. The Sony PSP is waiting for God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, while the Sony PS3 is due to receive Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and more.
